New Pending World Trick Record!!
At the last tournament of the 2009 season hosted by Fluid Ski & Sports, Natalia Berdnikova of Belarus became the first woman ever to trick over 9000 points scoring 9080 for a new pending world record.
The event was a 2 round, 3 event, record capability tournament held on Saturday the 31st October at Lake Grew located next to the American Water Ski Educational Foundation Hall of Fame in Central Florida.
Berdnikova came very close to the existing record in the first round scoring 8800. However,in the second round she picked up the pace and fit 3 extra tricks into her passes to break the 9000 point mark. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that she is only one year out from major knee surgery and a hard road to recovery.
Tournament Director, Scot Ellis, said, “Natalia really deserves this record, she has been so close on numerous occasions and has really worked hard to come back from last year’s injury. Women’s tricks is really taking huge strides forward with countless women now scoring over 8000…I expect several others will join Natalia over 9000 in 2010.”
American skier, Marc Shaw, also added to the record books at the same event breaking the US Masters Men’s Jump Record flying 197ft in the second round. Kyle Eade, co-owner of Fluid Ski & Sports, commented “we have worked hard to establish Lake Grew as one of the world’s premier competition and training sites. We installed a multi-directional jump set-up to ensure perfect conditions and have upgraded to SplashEye, the world’s only fully automated jump measuring system. It is really pleasing to see some of the hard work pay off with the first of hopefully many US and World Records.”
