The Dark Knight is Crowned
This past Saturday evening at Lake Grew, the home of Fluid Ski & Sports, Guillermo Moreno de Carlos was crowned the “2010 Dark Knight” at the inaugural Rocketman Night Jump flying 213ft in the head to head final.
The evening kicked off around 6:30pm with the Ski Fly Single Cut Championships with Canada’s Ryan Dodd taking the title launching 157ft over 2nd place Kole Magnowski also from Canada.
The sun set around 7:00pm and the lights came on setting the stage for a great night’s entertainment. With the DJ cranking the crowd got amped up watching the preliminaries of the Bikini competition narrowing the field from 10 to the top 5 ladies.
After an awesome trick display by former World Cup and Masters Champion Jimmy Siemers, the first round of the Night Jump got underway. Jumping at night is as extreme as it gets and Daniel Efverstrom pushed it past the limits cart-wheeling out-the-front early in the competition. Luckily he was able to continue and post a respectable score. Making it through to the next round was Kole Magnowski, Guillermo Moreno de Carlos and Scot Ellis all with distances over 200ft.
The ladies came right back out strutting their stuff for the Bikini finals while the top 3 jumpers prepared for the head to head finals. Guest judges Will Asher, Chris Parrish and Jason Seels had a tough job for the evening choosing the top 3 and the winner but had a lot of help from crowd participation!!
The top 3 jumpers went straight back out with only 2 jumps each. Scot and Guillermo advanced both jumping upwards of 210ft. Head to head with only one jump each Scot Ellis went huge posting 209ft and thought he had done enough. However, Guillermo “the Spanish Bull” held nothing back and soared 213ft to earn the “Dark Knight” title and his first pro career win.
A special thanks to all of the tournament sponsors: Huston Motors, Connelly, Marine Products, SplashEye, Masterline, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Liquid Cut.
